: I've been trying out the demo and have a question. I just started inputting tenant info for one of our buildings. The building has 6 units - A1 - A6. I want the tenant numbers to correspond to the unit numbers. I've inputted infor for 4 of the tenants and the tenant numbers don't correspond to the unit numbers. The program gave the tenant in unit A1 tenant number 5. I've tried to edit it but it defaults to the previous number. It's giving the number 9 to the A5 tenant. How do I correct this problem?

You can't.

The system will define the tenant number for you. It will be a pure number, no alphanumerics or anything else, and numbering will occur sequentially. As much as anything, the reason for this is that tenant numbers must be unique, as must unit codes.

I personally have quite a few Unit 1s and even a couple of Unit A1s. These must be identified uniquely or else the system will get very confused. This is why, in addition to using Unit Names( A1) we also use unit codes (MYBLDG-A1). A1 may not be unique; MYBLDG-A1 will be unique.

Presumably you want to refer to the unit in order to get to the tenant. Well, we do that too and it is built into the tenant form.

When you enter a new tenant, you enter the last name, the first name, a bunch of other stuff, and the unit code.

When you want to find a tenant using Edit Tenant, the system positions the cursor at the tenant number field. If you know the tenant number, just type it in. If you are like me, and like most people, you won't know the tenant number. That's OK; just hit enter.

Now the cursor is positioned in the last name field. You may remember the tenant's last name; if so, type it in and you then will be able to scroll through all tenants with that last name.

If you are like me (I presume you are since you want unit numbers and tenant numbers to match) you won't remember the tenant's name. However you always remember the unit code where that tenant lives.

So, just hit enter. Now the cursor is positioned on the Unit Code field. Type in the unit code and voila! There is your tenant.
